Robin van Persie has announced his retirement from football at the age of 35. The former Manchester United and Arsenal striker made the announcement on his personal website on Tuesday. "It's a decision I have not taken lightly," Van Persie said. "I have had many great moments in my career, and I am very grateful for all the support I have received from my family, friends, and fans. I would like to thank everyone who has been a part of my journey." Van Persie began his career at Feyenoord in the Netherlands, before moving to Arsenal in 2004. He spent eight years at the Gunners, scoring 132 goals in 278 appearances. He won the FA Cup in 2005 and 2014, and was named PFA Players' Player of the Year in 2012. In 2012, Van Persie joined Manchester United, where he won the Premier League title in 2013. He scored 58 goals in 105 appearances for the Red Devils, before leaving to join Fenerbahce in 2015. Van Persie spent two years in Turkey, before returning to Feyenoord in 2018. He helped the club win the KNVB Cup in 2018, and retired as a player in 2019. Van Persie also enjoyed a successful international career with the Netherlands. He scored 50 goals in 102 appearances for his country, and was part of the team that finished third at the 2014 World Cup. Van Persie is widely regarded as one of the best strikers of his generation. He was a prolific goalscorer, and was also known for his excellent passing and movement. He will be remembered as one of the most iconic players in Dutch football history.
