Richard Carapaz Wins Stage 17 of the 2024 Tour de France

Ecuadorian cyclist claims victory in grueling mountain stage

Carapaz's triumph adds another golden page to Ecuadorian cycling history

Ecuadorian cyclist Richard Carapaz has secured a historic victory in Stage 17 of the 2024 Tour de France, claiming the first stage win for Ecuador in the prestigious race's history. Carapaz's impressive solo attack in the mountainous terrain of the stage earned him the coveted yellow jersey, solidifying his position as a leader in the overall competition.

Carapaz, riding for EF Education-EasyPost, completed the 175-kilometer stage from Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux to Superdévoluy with a time of 4 hours, 42 minutes, and 14 seconds, outpacing his rivals by a significant margin. His victory marks a significant milestone for Ecuadorian cycling, adding another chapter to the nation's growing legacy in the sport.

This triumph comes after Carapaz's previous success in the 2019 Tour de France, where he became the first South American to win a Grand Tour, and his subsequent victory in the 2022 Giro d'Italia. Carapaz's latest achievement further cements his status as one of the world's leading cyclists and solidifies Ecuador's position as a force to be reckoned with in the international cycling scene.
