WEB Mathe Wa Ngara Loses Ksh 134 Million Seized From her Home Last Year

Court Declares it Proceeds of Crime

Nairobi, Kenya

Former Kiambu Woman Representative Wambuchua Wa Ngara has lost Ksh 134 million that was seized from her home last year after the court declared it proceeds of crime.

The ruling was delivered by Justice Esther Maina in Nairobi when she dismissed the case filed by Wa Ngara challenging the seizure of the money by the Assets Recovery Agency (ARA).

Wa Ngara had argued that the money was part of her legitimate earnings from businesses but the court ruled otherwise, saying the money was not from legitimate businesses and could not be explained.

Justice Maina said the money was proceeds of corruption and money laundering and was therefore forfeited to the government.

The ruling is a major blow to Wa Ngara who has been battling with the ARA over the money since it was seized from her home in Runda last year.
