Florida advances to second round with 4-3 series victory
In a stunning upset, the Florida Panthers defeated the Boston Bruins 4-3 in Game 7 of their Eastern First Round matchup on Saturday night. The Panthers, who finished the regular season with 39 fewer points than the Bruins, rallied from a 3-2 deficit in the third period to win the series 4-3.
Brandon Montour tied the game with just 1:02 remaining in regulation, and Pavel Zacha scored the game-winning goal in overtime to send the Panthers to the second round. It is the first time the Panthers have advanced past the first round since 1996.
The Bruins, who had the best record in the NHL during the regular season, were heavily favored to win the series. However, the Panthers played with heart and determination throughout the series, and they ultimately pulled off the upset.
The Panthers will now face the Carolina Hurricanes in the second round. The Hurricanes finished the regular season with the third-best record in the NHL, and they will be a tough test for the Panthers.
