WASHINGTON (Reuters) - An active-duty member of the US Air Force has died after he set himself on fire outside the Israeli Embassy in Washington DC, the Air Force said on Sunday.
The man, identified as Aaron Bushnell of San Antonio, Texas, was pronounced dead at a local hospital on Saturday, the Air Force said in a statement.
Bushnell was a member of the 635th Material Maintenance Squadron at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, the Air Force said.
The Air Force said it is investigating the incident and is cooperating with local law enforcement.
The incident occurred around 11:34 a.m. GMT on Saturday, according to the Air Force.
The Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia said in a statement that officers responded to a report of a man on fire outside the Israeli Embassy at 3514 International Place NW.
The police said the man was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The police said they are investigating the incident with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations.
The Israeli Embassy in Washington DC did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
